I realized I have never done a personal blog post, so here goes! I figured it would be a great time to recap this whirlwind year of 2014. But first, a little back story of 2013.
In 2013 I FINALLY graduated college. My goal that year was to leave my part-time job and become a full-time photographer. That did not happen. I wasn’t even close. So I set the same goal for 2014.
Going into 2014, I had one wedding booked. My goal for the year was 10. When January rolled around, the inquiries came piling in. It was amazing. I went from 1 wedding to 6 very quickly. Shortly after, I reached my goal of 10. I can’t believe I did it. In fact, I surpassed it and had 14 weddings this year! Wow! I am so thrilled that so many couples trusted me to capture their wedding day! And in October, I officially left my part-time job and now I am a full-time photographer!!! I apologize for all of the exclamation points, it’s just the only way I can show you my excitement. For 2015, I already have 5 weddings booked and I’m just ecstatic. If next year is just the same as this year, I will be completely happy.
In 2014, I photographed 14 weddings, 10 engagements, 1 proposal, 2 maternity sessions, 11 family sessions, 1 women’s retreat, 1 surprise anniversary party, 1 Game of Thrones inspired shoot, was the second shooter for another 4 weddings, and attended 5 photography/business workshops. I took over 20,000 photos this year! I also traveled approximately 5773.3 miles for sessions and meetings. I couldn’t have done any of this without my awesome clients, so THANK YOU!!!
Something I learned in 2014 is to embrace the awkward. If you asked me to describe myself, awkward is the first word that comes to my mind. This year I just embraced it. I was surprised how many people I met with also described themselves this way. So I say if you think you’re awkward in front of the camera, well I’m awkward behind it so we’re good to go! Another thing I learned is to be myself. I know that sounds weird because who else would I be, you know? As you can see, I use a lot of exclamation points. Earlier this year, if you emailed me you wouldn’t see any. I had to have my big girl business pants on while emailing. Exclamation points were not allowed. You know what that got me? A bride who thought I wasn’t excited about her wedding so she went elsewhere.
On a personal note, my husband and I traveled to Playa Del Carmen in August for our first tropical vacation EVARRRRR and it was so amazing. I also surprised him with a vow renewal (5 years) and will post some photos from that later.
Coming up in 2015 I am finally attending WPPI in Las Vegas. Oh. My. Gosh. I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I packed my schedule full of classes so I can better serve you this coming year. There’s also a trade show where I can see and touch a lot of the items to offer clients, like albums, frames, textured papers, etc. I’m hoping that I come back with a new excitement and love for photography and that I can really think outside the box to give you more amazing photos.
In 2015 I also plan on a little rebranding and coming up with great wedding welcome packets with tasty treats to get you excited about planning your big day! I’ve already spoken to the treat maker and they’re so good I may keep them!
Again, to this year’s clients I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I wouldn’t have been able to make this my full-time job without you. To my future clients, I can’t wait to meet you and photograph your special moments, whether it’s your wedding, family, or pregnancy!
